THE unpredictability of 2020 and 2021 has shown that in order to thrive, businesses need to be able to innovate and adapt at scale and speed. Like every other industry, the manufacturing sector has felt the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, pushed to go digital as businesses went through a phase of constant transformation over the past year due to cities going into lockdowns, restricted air and sea travels, and declines in supply demand.

Businesses in the manufacturing business were aware of the need to digitalise, but the sudden onset of the pandemic caught many by surprise. Small and medium enterprises and private corporations were badly affected since they were slower to adapt and did not have the proper support or knowledge to upgrade their processes.

With the sector hit hard by the pandemic, manufacturing executives had to deal with additional pressures in material shortages and decline in customers. Almost overnight, they had to understand how to manage their supply chains, keep a tight overview of their processes, manage redundancies and ensure a smooth workflow.
