Welcome to the Age of Trump

The many critics of the US president-elect need to stop demonising him and his supporters

THE folks at the hip Rolling Stone magazine sounded a bit hysterical last week. They ran the headline "Trump Ditching Reporters Is a Terrifying Red Flag" over a story that warned that US President-elect Donald Trump was planning to restrict the media's access to the White House and perhaps even to clamp down on freedom of the press.

"Trump's antagonistic relationship with the press is a dangerous red flag about his impending presidency," Rolling Stone warned readers. Case in point: Mr Trump failed to notify the press that he was going to dinner with his family in Manhattan. Not once, but twice in the week!

Yep. The president-elect (remember that he wouldn't actually enter office until January) was dining at a steakhouse in midtown Manhattan together with his daughter, Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner, and his sons Donald Jr and Eric. They were all having a steak dinner and the press had the fits.
