As significant things go, this week was chock-full of them. On the home front, Singapore got its first woman president. Elsewhere in the world, millions dealt with the fallout from Hurricane Irma while in this region, parts of Japan and China battened down the hatches for Typhoon Talim.

What has dominated business and consumer headlines this week, however, is the launch of Apple's latest iPhones and assorted whizbang gadgets that have been upgraded or overhauled.
