TO quote famed baseball player Yogi Berra, who was known for his witticism, "it was déjà vu all over again".

When this week's election in the sixth Congressional district of the state of Georgia ended in a loss for the Democratic Party candidate, disheartened Democrats and liberals had the "I-cannot-believe-this-is-happening" feeling; America pollsters shook their heads; New York Times commentators had egg on their faces; CNN political pundits looked depressed; and young women who were expecting to celebrate their candidate's victory were instead weeping in front of the television cameras late on Tuesday night.
