A SPECIAL orange band around my wrist, I was led through the backstage of Singapore Indoor Stadium, past crew members darting around in rehearsed chaos. It was Nov 8, 2015, the second sold-out night of Taylor Swift’s The 1989 World Tour – and I was heading right to the front.

About a dozen other people were there, all of us with the same orange wristbands and in outfits that referenced the pop idol’s lyrics or her past costumes.

We had another thing in common – none of us had expected to be there.
