AS a thought experiment let's ask ourselves : "Why do we obey laws?"

Most people would come up with a number of different answers, ranging from the philosophical to the practical. Some might say that's the morally right thing to do, others that it's what their upbringing teaches them, and so on. Each of these responses wouldn't be wrong.

However, one can surmise that in a society people obey laws basically because there are repercussions for not doing so. If you went into a shop and took what you wanted without paying for it, it's quite likely you would be handed over to the police. One cannot deny that fear of the consequences is sufficient deterrent to ensure that most sections of society abide by the law.
