EVEN as e-commerce has largely been a boon for consumers, offering options and convenience previously unimaginable, it has disrupted many industries. Brick-and-mortar retail most notably, but also logistics.
The national postal service provider, which celebrates 162 years this year, is all too familiar with this disruption.
"When we first started, this was all about letter mail and paper-based products; now, it is increasingly about e-commerce," says Vincent Phang, CEO, Postal Services & Singapore, at Singapore Post (SingPost). "So the challenge for us to address globally is: How do we take a network system that is engineered for mail, and re-engineer and enhance it so that we can move e-commerce products through the same network?"
