Nuanced approach needed in using carbon credits to offset Scope 3 emissions

    CARBON markets have been thrown into disarray, once again.

    This comes after a United Nations-backed body that evaluates corporates’ climate commitments was perceived to be waffling in its decision on whether companies can use carbon credits to offset a portion of their emissions.

    The backlash against the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) announcement that it would expand the use of carbon credits to offset Scope 3 emissions – which refer to indirect emissions arising from a company’s supply chain – came swift and strong.
