A senior’s counsel to self
MY ONLY qualification in writing this article is age. Even then, just barely.
Since turning 60, the only visible sign of my senior status is a silver-coloured PAssion card, that proudly announces “Senior Citizen Concession”.
The admission into the seniors’ club has largely gone unnoticed. Perhaps the only other visible change is my “promotion” last year into grandparenthood. Even then, I am reminded by a former schoolmate (who became a father the same month I became a grandad) that cradling a newborn infant cannot lead one to conclude that seniority can be automatically associated with grandparenting and an assumed slowing down of one’s lifestyle. My friend remains active and productive, as a senior.
