UK PRIME Minister Keir Starmer has been attacked by some domestic critics for the amount of time he has spent on foreign visits in his first six months in office. However, his most difficult trip yet awaits in Washington next week when he becomes the first European leader to visit US President Donald Trump since his inauguration.

So far, Trump has made positive noises about Starmer, and much UK effort has been made to woo the US president. However, given Trump’s highly mercurial nature, this may not last long.

Trump has fallen out, to a lesser or greater degree, with every UK prime minister he has worked with so far. This includes even his apparent friend Boris Johnson, who was invited by the US president to his second inauguration last month.
