What’s next for AI after the G7 summit?
AT THE recent G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, leaders called for the development of standards to keep artificial intelligence (AI) trustworthy.
The spotlight on AI is not new. Digitalisation has been addressed in depth by the G7 summit since 2011. Over the years, the focus has shifted to cybersecurity, global governance, and regional and international collaboration. However, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the fifth dimension of warfare – cyberwarfare – has become more complex.
The recent public rise of AI is a much-debated topic for the global community. Responsible AI and global AI governance are on the G7 agenda, in addition to other topics relating to cross-border data flows, digital infrastructure, Internet governance, disruptive technologies and digital competition. These topics reflect the increasing significance of cyberwarfare and AI in the global arena.
