CAN artificial intelligence (AI) think? Is it an attempt to imitate the human brain? Will it take decision making away from us? Will AI create massive unemployment?
Don't worry folks, we're not there yet. We've had calculators for 50 years. But the difference with modern AI and calculators is that when you give today's AI examples, it learns on its own. We currently have no such thing as artificial general intelligence (AGI) - something approaching human levels of cognition - and we won't for the next few decades.
Self-driving cars are cool, but they're no terminator. It is true that computers can recognise faces better, drive a car better, and play chess better than human beings. But this narrow artificial intelligence that already exists today will not rise up and take control from human beings.
