Just how safe is Tesla's home battery system?
An Underwriters Laboratories or TUV third-party safety certification may be in order
PERSONALLY I find Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, a real show-off, but he is not a snake oil salesman. He is Henry Ford (cars), Wernher Von Braun (rockets) and Nikola Tesla (electricity) morphed into one person. His products are real, old school high-tech manufacturing stuff, and while he talks the talk, he does walk the walk with real products shipped to customers.
The recent announcement about his new company Tesla Energy and their home battery systems to augment renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines will be good for the solar and wind industries if they can make these batteries ubiquitous everywhere.
Solar and wind have always been attacked as intermittent power sources. But a battery that's always being charged will serve to steady the supply and get rid of the "unstable" power tag.
