No retrenchment at Brightoil Singapore
WE refer to the article "Brightoil downplays retrenchments in Singapore," (BT, May 26). We note that in the said article it was reported that "Brightoil has let go of most if not all bunker traders at its Singapore office in the last two months" and that "this is the second or third time that Brightoil have retrenched all traders at the bunker desk".
We wish to clarify that there has been no retrenchment in the Singapore office of Brightoil and Brightoil certainly did not let go of any of its bunker traders in its Singapore office in the last two months. The manpower situation in the Singapore bunker industry has always been very fluid but at Brightoil, we are pleased to say that our current team of five bunker traders, supported by a team of sales executives and operation executives, has been largely unchanged in 2017. Under the leadership of chief operation officer Stephen Oi Jun and global bunker director Hans Staal, the morale of the bunker team is high and enjoying a strong sense of team bonding.
Brightoil is committed to its bunkering business in Singapore and China. This is an important part of Brightoil's overall business strategy. There is no reason for Brightoil to downsize its presence or let go of its bunker traders in Singapore.
