Remuneration: Get basics right and avoid pitfalls

A strong ethical culture must underpin a pay-for-performance system which avoids the pitfalls of excessive remuneration.

Companies should assess whether the performance measures used and the mix of fixed salaries, short-term incentives and long-term incentives are fostering the right behaviour and are consistent with their roles.
