Singaporeans must not succumb to fear in fight against Covid-19 scourge
SINGAPORE reported its first case of the novel coronavirus or Covid-19 on Jan 23. Given the fast-evolving circumstances in dealing with this novel virus, there is much to gain by taking stock of the situation at the one-month mark.
Overall, the republic has done exceptionally well in meeting this threat face-on despite some grumblings by netizens on social media.
The fact that Singapore initially was among the countries that have the highest number of reported cases of the viral infection outside of China had fuelled criticisms that the country was too slow in barring travellers from China which resulted in imported Covid-19 cases. Such claims are incorrect and made on hindsight.
