SingPost remains committed to providing quality service
WE refer to the letter "Why is mailing a letter in Singapore so complicated?" (BT, Feb 3) by Denis Distant. We would like to thank Mr Distant for his valuable comments and interest in our stamps and post offices.
SingPost puts considerable thought into how best to label our stamps and serve our customers. Since 1993, we have been using indicators instead of monetary values to guide the postage value of our stamps. The initial indicator used was "For Local Addresses Only". In 2004, this was changed to "1st Local", for mail weighing below 20g, and "2nd Local", for mail weighing between 20g and 40g.
In doing so, we are in keeping with best practices used by postal agencies around the world, including those in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and South Korea. Non-monetary indicators are used so that older stamps are still valid whatever the current postal rate - for the convenience of customers.
