South-east Asia's tech sector will bounce back

Past experiences with Sars and avian flu have prepared the region for drastic economic problems caused by the pandemic. The region being so wired will help its recovery.

WHILE Wuhan has opened up after almost 80 days behind closed doors, we in Singapore are, like many of our colleagues in Europe, the United States and Japan, still in lockdown.

We may be last into the shut-in, but the tech sector here, at least, will be first off the blocks when the recovery comes.

It has been tough to watch the epidemic and the economic fallout spread from Asia across Europe and to the US. Across the world, startups are having to work out new ways of conducting business to survive. Growth in the Asian region is expected to slow sharply to around 2 per cent this year.
