Time for protesters, HK government to bring concerns to the table
It is time for an independent inquiry into structural reform and good governance. This is no whodunnit. It's not the MTR in the library with the candlestick. The system needs an overhaul.
FOR some curious reason, charred bus hulks have long been the clearest indicator of popular dissatisfaction with just about everything from poor governance and inflation to, ironically, shoddy transport. In Hong Kong, the new go-to punching bag is the MTR station, a symbol - unlike the Hong Kong government - of everything that is right about this vibrant, efficient city.
As they set about torching stations and smashing turnstiles, a question protesters should ask themselves is this - does destroying the MTR hurt the government or everyday commuters like myself?
