Trump's foreign policy is evolving
He has made a start on building ties with leaders, and is working with China on N Korea
NOTE the front-page headlines and skim through the editorial pages of the world's leading newspapers, and it doesn't take long to deconstruct the conventional wisdom among members of the global chattering classes on President Donald Trump's performance in last week's meeting of the G-20 leaders in Hamburg, Germany.
There was the image of President Trump twisting along at a large G-20 summit dinner event, exposing his isolation. He didn't get along with the other world leaders and was shunted to the margins of a group photo. In some cases, he didn't seem to know what he was talking about.
Hence the Big-Picture Critique: President Trump is responsible for the new reality in which America is now losing its global credibility and influence, finding itself alone in the world, on issues like climate change and international trade, perhaps even turning into "a pariah nation on the global stage", said veteran American journalist David Andelman.
