US has duty to enforce Iran nuclear deal, not derail it

RARELY does a day pass by without some form of controversy emanating from the White House.

It was no different on Tuesday, when US President Donald Trump announced that he was sticking to a key election campaign promise of his by unilaterally yanking the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a major accord more commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.

He also reinstated sanctions on Tehran, declaring that the nuclear agreement - signed three years ago when Mr Trump's predecessor Barack Obama was still in office - was an "embarrassment" to the US that does nothing to contain Iran's nuclear ambitions.
