Heartening data arrived this week when the Diversity Action Committee (DAC) showed that, for the first time, a majority of Singapore-listed companies now have a woman director.
Combined with numbers showing that the proportion of board seats held by women has been growing steadily, to 11.2 per cent as at end-June, the statistics show that efforts to improve board gender diversity are paying off.
The numbers are likely to continue growing - and could do so at a faster pace than in the past few years - after Singapore adopts new revisions to the Code of Corporate Governance. Two proposed changes in particular will be especially helpful if accepted.
