70% of lawyers believe they will fall behind if they do not start using gen-AI tools

A survey report reveals how over 400 legal professionals in Malaysia and Singapore perceive and use generative AI tools

    SINGAPORE – April 23, 2025 – LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading global provider of information and analytics, releases its Generative AI and the Legal Profession 2025 Survey Report for Malaysia and Singapore. Focusing on findings from a survey of over 400 lawyers and legal professionals in Malaysia and Singapore, the report delves into how different legal professions in these countries are responding to and using generative AI tools in their day-to-day activities. It uncovers an insightful overview of awareness and adoption and a glimpse of a future in which the usage of these tools becomes second nature in legal research and practice.

    Findings from the report include:

    - 70% of respondents believe that they will fall behind if they do not start using generative AI tools. Apart from the spontaneous motivation, the companies they serve (36%), peers (30%), and clients (16%) also exert some pressure and expectations on legal professionals.

    - 48% of legal professionals in Malaysia and Singapore expressed confidence in their understanding of generative AI tools and how to leverage them.

    - More than half of respondents (66%) shared that they are using generative AI tools in their work, with those working in law firms showing a higher acceptance than those who work in-house.

    - More than half (56%) of the respondents consider the impact of introducing generative tools in their firms/organisation to be transformative or significant.
