SINGAPORE – Feb 18, 2025 – In conjunction with HP Singapore’s 55th anniversary, SG60, and Total Defence Day, HP held a Total Defence Day Commemoration Event and participated in Exercise SG Ready (ESR) on 17 February 2025. This event highlighted the importance of being prepared for threats and disruptions such as cyberattacks and prolonged power disruptions, as well as caring for others, especially the vulnerable, in times of crises. Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Social and Family Development, Mr Eric Chua, was the Guest of Honour at the event.

As part of HP’s participation in ESR 2025, their employees underwent several programmes including a phishing exercise, a simulated cyber-attack from ransomware, and a test of HP’s emergency business continuity plan for power outages. The programmes tested the organisation’s ability to detect, respond, and recover from a disruptive security breach. Their internal response strategies, communication protocols, and crisis management procedures were assessed by a cross-functional team of cybersecurity experts, IT professionals, and company leaders.

Addressing the participants, Mr Koh Kong Meng, Managing Director for HP Southeast Asia and Singapore, emphasised: “For 55 years HP has been a part of Singapore’s growth and community.” He said, “Today, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening Singapore’s resilience through innovation and collaboration alongside SG60 and Total Defence Day. Preparedness is key in an era of evolving threats, from cyber risks to power disruptions. Through initiatives like Exercise SG Ready 2025, we continue to leverage technology to work at safeguarding businesses and communities, to ensure we are prepared in times of crisis. Together with our partners, we remain dedicated to building a more secure and resilient Singapore for the future.”

Exercise SG Ready 2025 is a signature event of SG60 – the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s independence. As part of looking out and caring for others in times of crises, HP also showcased the activities conducted by their Social Impact Committee, which included their recent corporate adoption of an Active Ageing Centre (AAC). This initiative is part of HP’s broader commitment to supporting care for the vulnerable and enhancing the quality of life for the residents in the community.

“Total Defence is a collective responsibility that requires active participation of every individual and organisation. As we commemorate Total Defence Day and celebrate SG60, we are reminded that our strength lies in our unity. Standing together, embracing our diversity, and supporting one another should be our way of life - not just in times of crisis. Only then can we build a more resilient, cohesive, and inclusive Singapore. Let us do our part to shape a stronger, safer future for Singapore,” said Mr Eric Chua.

As part of Exercise SG Ready, business and community organisations can also play a valuable role in supporting the community through sustainable corporate volunteerism. Interested groups can reach out directly to the relevant AACs to arrange regular volunteering opportunities.

Exercise SG Ready, returning for its second edition, is held from 15 February to 28 February at various locations on different dates across the island. Over 1000 organisations, schools and units from educational, community, businesses and government sectors will carry out different disruption or preparedness activities across the two-week exercise period to strengthen their business continuity plans for power disruptions or phishing attacks.

The aim of Exercise SG Ready is to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to reflect on the question: “Are you ready for disruptions?” and put Total Defence into action through contingency plans.

Singaporeans may find out more about the timings and locations involved in the exercise via the SGReadyGoWhere website [https://www.gowhere.gov.sg/sgready/]. The public can key in a postal code, street or building name to get information on the duration, type, and location of simulated disruptions.
