From TikTok tips to ESG buzzwords, younger investors are betting big on values-driven themes. Nearly 70 per cent now commit more than a fifth of their portfolios to such plays. But here’s the catch: Warren Buffett didn’t become Buffett by following hashtags — he stayed patient, disciplined, and focused on fundamentals.

In this week’s episode of Money Hacks, a podcast from The Business Times hosted by Howie Lim, the focus is on how to balance investing with your values, without letting hype or FOMO derail long-term goals. Howie is joined by Patrick Hong, managing partner at Bill Morrisons Capital, and Steward Thum, financial services associate director at Phillip Securities.

    Why listen?

As Buffett himself shows, chasing hype rarely beats buying well and holding long.

    Because FOMO is expensive

The temptation to pile into the next AI stock or “green” crypto is real but behavioural traps can undo even the savviest investor.

The episode tackles practical strategies to balance personal values with disciplined portfolio construction, how to manage behavioural biases, and why diversification is still the only “free lunch” in investing.
