The Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) was meant to help you save on taxes and grow your nest egg. Yet almost one in five SRS dollars or roughly S$4 billion still sits idle in cash, earning just 0.05 per cent a year. That’s not retirement planning, it looks more like financial sleepwalking.

In this week’s episode of Money Hacks from The Business Times, host Howie Lim asks the experts why so many Singaporeans are letting their SRS funds snooze when they could be compounding quietly for decades. Joining her are Hugh Chung, chief investment officer at Endowus, and Jeremy Foo, Singapore country manager at StashAway, who both explain how to wake that money up safely and strategically.

    Why listen

    • Stop leaving money on the table. Find out why parking your SRS in cash is effectively losing money to inflation and how to start investing it prudently.
    • Invest for your timeline. From bonds and Reits to global ETFs, learn which mix makes sense for your risk appetite and how to balance local and foreign exposure.
    • Build smarter habits. Automation, diversification and even “investing in your vices” and discover small shifts that can make a big difference to your long-term wealth.

Whether you’re 35 and just opened your SRS account or 55 and wondering if it’s too late, this episode unpacks the tax breaks, the options, and the mindset that separates passive savers from active planners.

Listen now to learn how to make your SRS work as hard as you do. And as always, host Howie Lim invites your feedback or suggestions at btpodcasts@sph.com.sg.
