Some mornings begin with coffee. Others begin with the S&P 500 pulling its sharpest intraday reversal since April and dragging Asia down with it. If you checked the screens before breakfast, you probably needed something stronger than caffeine. Between overheated AI valuations, Nvidia’s much-anticipated outlook, Wall Street muttering about corrections, and a crypto slide loud enough to rattle even the unbothered, it has been a week.

And that’s before we even get to Japan’s new Prime Minister rolling out a stimulus plan so massive it’s already stirring the bond markets, weakening the yen and testing investor patience.

In this week’s Market Focus Weekly by The Business Times, Emily Liu calls in reinforcements: Dina Ting, head of Global Index Portfolio Management at Franklin Templeton. Ting is calm, forensic, and delightfully blunt about what’s signal and what’s just noise.

    Why listen

    • She unpacks AI mania with actual nuance: Not all “AI stocks” are equal, Ting breaks the space into three buckets you’ll wish you’d known sooner.
    • Explains why Nvidia alone can’t carry the narrative: One earnings report cannot calm global valuation jitters, no matter how shiny the margins look.
    • Calls out the real concentration risk in markets: The US now makes up nearly 70 per cent of global market cap stretched valuations and all. Spoiler alert: several international markets have quietly outperformed the US this year.
    • Dissects Japan’s giant spending plan and its ripple effects: From bond yields to equity resilience, this isn’t your typical “Japan is back” story.

If you want a clear, grounded take on a chaotic week and a steadier way to think about markets beyond a morning panic; Listen now.
