Amazon expands space at WeWork’s offices in midtown Manhattan
[NEW YORK] Amazon.com signed a new lease with WeWork that will allow the retailer to expand its presence in midtown Manhattan.
The tech giant agreed to take an additional 259,000 square feet (24,000 square metres) at 1440 Broadway, according to a source familiar with the matter. The new deal brings Amazon’s total footprint at the building to roughly 560,000 square feet, said the source, who asked to not be named as the deal is private.
Amazon did not immediately provide a comment.
“WeWork is proud to continue supporting Amazon’s real estate strategy in key markets – notably in New York City, where we have partnered on three significant transactions over the past year,” a WeWork spokesperson said.
Amazon has been adding office space in Manhattan after pulling back in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic. The retailer this year purchased an office tower on Fifth Avenue just a few blocks from the Lord & Taylor building, which Amazon bought for about US$1 billion in March 2020.
The company also signed a deal with WeWork last year at 330 W 34th St and at 5 Manhattan West earlier this year. BLOOMBERG
