[SINGAPORE] Homegrown hospitality brand Hotel Clover announced its plans for expansion at its arts-themed Hotel Clover The Arts last Thursday.

It is one of four boutique hotels in Singapore under the two-year-old Hotel Clover brand, owned by Singa Group of Companies.

The Hotel Clover chain has been expanding rapidly, both locally and overseas.

Its overseas expansion plans include opening of a 320-room hotel a stone's throw away from Shanghai's upcoming Disneyland and a 359-room hotel in Bangkok.

It also plans to enter more South-east Asian markets such as Malaysia, while a fifth Singapore property is in the works.

The Shanghai hotel is set to open in the second quarter of 2015, before Disneyland, and the Bangkok hotel is expected to see its first customers in 2016.

As the Shanghai hotel will be within 2km of Disneyland, Hotel Clover CEO Teo Kok Hwee expects its occupancy rates to range above 90 per cent.

Mr Teo believes that the brand will still continue to thrive locally despite declining tourist arrivals and competition from similarly priced mid-range hotels.

"If you are just one of the standard four-star hotels, you may face tough competition, but each of our property has its own character and we cater to a niche market," he said.

Indeed, Hotel Clover chain, which mainly targets and attracts younger free, independent travellers (FITs), enjoys 80 to 90 per cent occupancy rate for its hotels and expects Hotel Clover The Arts to have an average revenue per room of around S$180.

Hotel Clover The Arts, which became operational in April this year features 44 rooms, each with unique and quirky artworks by local artists.

Almost all the walls of the hotel are covered with artworks of some sort, including its exterior which features a large mural of a waterfall.

In line with the artistic personality of Hotel Clover The Arts, the brand rolled out its CloveRedi2Art (a stylistic way of writing Clover Ready to Art) programme.

CloveRedi2Art, fronted by local veteran singer-songwriter and producer Jiu Jian, is a social community art-sharing programme that aims to promote local artists and to build a vibrant, creative and artistic image for Singapore by introducing the public to different forms of art.

The programme, which has already held four art-sharing sessions, has been largely "well-received", according to Mr Jiu, who said that attendance was higher than expected.
