More temporary HDB flats for waiting couples

THE supply of HDB flats under the Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) will be bumped up by 800 flats, in addition to the current supply of 1,150 such flats.

Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, announcing this in his blog on Friday, said that couples will also be allowed to co-rent the unit to reduce their rental expenses - a change that will be useful especially to those renting four-room or five-room PPHS flats that give them more space than they need.

The PPHS was set up last year to provide first-timer married couples with children below 16 years old with affordable temporary housing while waiting for their HDB flats to be built. The scheme was later extended to include married couples (not just first-timers) awaiting the completion of their Build-to-Order or Sale of Balance flats, as well as couples without children.
