DATA centre provider ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) on Tuesday said it has entered into a strategic partnership with Temasek and Indonesian conglomerate Triputra Group to develop a new data centre operating platform in Jakarta.
The first data centre campus will be built in the Greenland International Industrial Center, located in Kota Deltamas, a city in West Java. This new data centre campus will support the development of multiple buildings and up to 72 megawatts of IT capacity, it said.
Construction of the first phase is expected to start in the coming months and is anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of 2023.
STT GDC, which is indirectly wholly-owned by Temasek Holdings, hopes to achieve a greater portfolio diversity through this partnership, it said. The construction of the new data centre will allow it to "strengthen" its Asian network, to include the top three most populous countries in Asia - China, India and Indonesia. Its network also extends to other strategic locations such as Singapore, Seoul and Bangkok.
Bruno Lopez, president and group chief executive of STT GDC, said that the joint venture marks the group's strategic entry into the Indonesia data centre market. "(It) is an important step for STT GDC to reinforce its position as a leading data centre player in Asia-Pacific."
Indonesia is regarded as the largest Internet economy in South-east Asia, fuelled by the high consumer adoption rates of digital applications and services, he added.
