Groundbreaking technologies are helping to boost productivity in Singapore's built-environment sector. By FRANCIS KAN
IMAGINE a room complete with internal finishes, fixtures and fittings that had been built from scratch in a factory, and then transported to a construction site for installation, just like a Lego block.
This advanced form of building, known as Prefabricated Pre-finished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), is just one of several emerging technologies changing the face of the built-environment sector and boosting the productivity of industry players.
At BuildTech Asia 2014, an annual event that is part of Singapore Construction Productivity Week (SCPW), seven such technologies that leverage on information technology, prefabrication and smart construction and materials to improve productivity will be showcased. These groundbreaking initiatives reflect the theme of this year's event - "Build smart for a future-ready Singapore".
