Surbana Jurong bags contract to build Yunnan township
SURBANA Jurong has won its first contract in Baoshan city, Yunnan to build a township consisting of 26 blocks of over 2,000 housing units in an area of 418,000 square metres.
The project, awarded by the Baoshan government, is expected to be completed in three years.
The infrastructure consultancy will be responsible for, among other areas, architectural design, civil and structural engineering, and mechanical and electrical engineering.
The project - a quarter of the size of Marine Parade estate, according to Surbana - will have a multi-storey car park, a kindergarten and a neighbourhood centre. The township will also have "spaces for residents' interactions and accessible amenities and services".
Wong Heang Fine, CEO of Surbana Jurong Group, said China's rapid urbanisation will mean increasing demand for affordable housing, and highlighted "how local governments can partner Surbana Jurong to create sustainable township and positively shape the lives of its people and the community".
Baoshan city's Vice-Mayor Geng Mei said that the partnership with Surbana will create a "beautiful and sustainable city in this south-western region of the Belt Road Initiative".
