AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be in Singapore from Jun 1 to Jun 3 for the 8th Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting, the latest in a series under the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
A welcome ceremony at the Istana will be held in PM Albanese’s honour on Friday (Jun 2), where he will also call on President Halimah Yacob. As Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has tested positive again for Covid-19, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will hold the leaders’ meeting with PM Albanese and host him to an official lunch.
During his visit, PM Albanese will also be delivering the keynote address at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
The three-day trip will be PM Albanese’s first visit to Singapore since he took office last May. He and PM Lee previously met in person last October, when the latter visited Australia for the seventh edition of the leaders’ meeting.
The last Singapore-Australia leaders’ meeting – held in Canberra – saw the signing of the landmark Green Economy Agreement (GEA), along with agreements to collaborate in strategic areas such as supply chain resilience.
A statement posted on PM Albanese’s website said talks between the leaders will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, implementing the GEA, as well as strengthening mutual food and energy security, defence cooperation and trade and investment ties.
