Budget 2025: Hawkers, arts to get more support in 2025; S$100 credits for ActiveSG members
Citizens are also encouraged to participate in sports with family and friends through ActiveSG credits
HAWKERS and the arts will get more support in 2025 as the government seeks to strengthen the nation’s “cultural core and community bonds”, said Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on Tuesday (Feb 18).
At his Budget 2025 speech, Wong, who is also the prime minister, said that hawkers and market stallholders in stalls managed by government and government-appointed operators will each receive a one-time rental support of S$600 this year.
He added that the government will allocate up to S$1 billion over the next 20 to 30 years to upgrade ageing hawker centres and to build new centres.
More details for this will be provided by the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu at the Committee of Supply, PM Wong said.
As for the arts, he said that the government will introduce an SG Culture Pass to encourage Singaporeans to attend local arts and heritage activities.
All Singaporeans aged 18 and above will receive S$100 worth of credits, which they can use for eligible activities from Sep 2025 to end 2028.
The Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong will share more about these initiatives subsequently, PM Wong said.
To promote sports participation, he also announced that ActiveSG members will receive S$100 in credits. These credits can be used to book ActiveSG facilities and Programmes.
