Business leaders in manufacturing awarded national honours for contributions to Singapore
Their companies’ activities have contributed to enhance Singapore’s attractiveness as an investment destination, says EDB chairman
PRESIDENT Tharman Shanmugaratnam has conferred national awards on three business leaders from the manufacturing sector for their significant contributions to Singapore, the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said on Thursday (Jun 13).
The Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) award was presented to Gary Dickerson, president and chief executive officer of Applied Materials, and to Marc Casper, chairman, president and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Manish Bhatia, executive vice-president for global operations of Micron Technology, was awarded the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore).
EDB chairman Png Cheong Boon said: “Mr Gary Dickerson, Mr Marc Casper and Mr Manish Bhatia have significantly expanded the presence of their respective firms in Singapore, benefiting our local ecosystem through the creation of good jobs and business opportunities.” He added that the three companies – Applied Materials, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Micron Technology – are “stalwarts” in Singapore’s manufacturing sector, and that their activities have strengthened Singapore’s semiconductor and healthcare industries, contributing to the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
The award given to Dickerson and Casper was initiated by the EDB in 1998 to recognise senior business executives for their outstanding contributions to the economic growth of Singapore; the one presented to Bhatia recognises individuals who have rendered commendable public service to the Republic.
Between 1998 and 2023, 49 senior business executives were conferred the Public Service Star; another 49 were presented the Public Service Medal, EDB noted.
