China Premier Li Qiang to make first official visit to Singapore this weekend
This is Li’s first official trip to the Republic
[SINGAPORE] China’s Premier Li Qiang will visit Singapore from Saturday (Oct 25) to Sunday, at the invitation of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, in his first official trip to the Republic.
Li’s visit – following PM Wong’s official trip to China in June – marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China in 2025 and “reflects our excellent bilateral ties”, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1990.
On Saturday, Li will receive a ceremonial welcome and hold bilateral talks with PM Wong. Both leaders will witness the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements in areas including green development, the digital economy, and training and development.
That evening, PM Wong will host an official dinner in Li’s honour.
On Sunday, Li will call on Acting President Eddie Teo, who chairs the Council of Presidential Advisers.
He will also meet Singapore and Chinese business leaders at the Singapore-China Business Roundtable, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
