Director of vehicle parallel importer SGCARS4U.COM charged with forgery, obstruction of justice
49-year-old alleged to have submitted forged documents for the registration of two vehicles
THE director of a vehicle parallel importer in Singapore was charged on Tuesday (Aug 13) with four counts of forging documents and two counts of obstructing police investigation.
Jaye Tham was accused of forging four documents between May 2020 and July 2020 with the intent of cheating the Land Transport Authority into approving a Honda Fit petrol-hybrid car and a classic Mercedes-Benz 280S for registration.
Three letters allegedly issued by car dealers in Japan and one vehicle certificate from an Australian authority were used by the accused to support applications by SGCARS4U.COM Pte Ltd to register the two vehicles that were imported.
Tham was charged over the obstruction of a police investigation as well, as he allegedly deleted messages from two WhatsApp chats on his mobile device to prevent police access.
The 49-year-old is out on bail of S$15,000. His lawyer told the State Courts that he had just been hired and needed to take instructions from Tham, as well as to make representations to the prosecution.
The case will next be mentioned on Sep 9.
