DEPUTY Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat will visit Brunei from Sunday (Jul 14) to Wednesday to attend Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 78th birthday celebrations.
There, Heng will attend a royal guard of honour ceremony, investiture ceremony and a royal banquet.
During his trip, Heng will have an audience with Sultan Bolkiah and his wife, Raja Isteri Saleha, and meet various Bruneian ministers and business leaders.
He will also visit a museum that houses Islamic heritage artefacts from Sultan Bolkiah’s personal collection, the Universiti Brunei Darussalam and an aquaculture farm.
The annual visits by Singapore’s leaders to personally convey their well-wishes to Sultan Bolkiah on his birthday reflect the “longstanding special relationship” between Singapore and Brunei, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Sunday.
Heng’s visit also takes place as Singapore and Brunei celebrates 40 years of diplomatic ties.
