DEPUTY Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver Singapore’s Budget 2024 statement in Parliament on Feb 16 at 3.30 pm, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on Thursday (Feb 1).

The Budget Statement will be broadcast live on various platforms including Channel 5, Channel News Asia, the 8 World News website, and meWatch. The Singapore Association for the Deaf will provide simultaneous sign language interpretation of the speech on Channel 5.

It will also be aired live on radio stations CNA938 and Capital 958.

Following the delivery, the statement will be published in full on www.singaporebudget.gov.sg. Those who are interested can subscribe to receive the full statement via e-mail on MOF’s website.

Reach – the Singapore government’s feedback and engagement unit – will hold an in-person Budget conversation on Feb 23 in English, and another in Mandarin on Mar 13.

Second Minister for Finance and National Development Indranee Rajah, and Reach chairman Tan Kiat How, who is Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information and National Development, will join the Feb 23 conversation to share their views.

Transport Minister and Second Finance Minister Chee Hong Tat, as well as Reach deputy chairperson Eric Chua, who is Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth and Social and Family Development, will take part in the Mar 13 session.

Following the Budget announcements on Feb 16, Reach will hold a series of engagements for members of the public to share their views on Budget 2024, including physical points across Singapore, outdoor panel discussions, and a podcast episode in March.

The People’s Association and its grassroots organisations will also hold post-Budget dialogues to engage residents on Budget 2024 measures. Residents who are interested to attend can register their interest at https://go.gov.sg/postbudget24 by 12 pm on Mar 1.

The public may continue to share their views through Reach’s Budget 2024 microsite, or the department’s e-Listening Points via www.reach.gov.sg/budget2024 as well as various other feedback channels.

The annual Budget sets out the government’s revenue and spending estimates for the new financial year, which begins on Apr 1 and ends on Mar 31 the following year. It also includes revised government revenue and expenditure projections for the current financial year.

Parliament will debate the Budget Statement about a week after it is delivered, with Wong then making a round-up speech to address queries and feedback from Members of Parliament.

Parliament then sits as a Committee of Supply to examine each ministry’s spending plans.

If the president assents to the Supply Bill, it becomes a law called the Supply Act, which controls the Singapore government’s spending in the upcoming financial year. It is expected to be enacted by Mar 31.
