Four partners join sustainability collaboration, ink MoU with A*Star, JTC, TÜV SÜD 

ENTERPRISE Singapore, the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, the Singapore Precision Engineering and Technology Association and Singapore Polytechnic on Wednesday (Oct 19) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) along with existing members of the Green Compass collaboration to further develop the Green Compass environmental sustainability assessment and roadmapping tool and bring it to more companies in Singapore. 

The founding Green Compass partnership was previously formalised among the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star), JTC and global testing, inspection, certification and training solutions provider TÜV SÜD in July last year. 

The tool aims to help businesses understand and improve their environmental sustainability progress, to lower business costs, improve resource efficiency, prepare for sustainability transformation and future-proof against supply chain disruptions. 

It includes a course where businesses learn about key sustainability concepts and are guided to assess their own sustainability journey, prioritise key areas based on their company’s needs and resources and plan their implementation of sustainability strategies. Up to 90 per cent SkillsFuture subsidies can be obtained by eligible participants for the course. 

“We have integrated our organisations’ specialised and complementary expertise in sustainable technologies, quality assessment, and regulation, to help companies start and scale up their environmental sustainability transformation,” said David Low, chief executive officer (CEO) of A*Star’s Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre at Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific 2022.

According to JTC CEO Tan Boon Khai, the Industry 4.0 Human Capital Initiative’s Community of Practice, an ecosystem of over 25 technology and solution providers, will also be expanded to include six new partners. This will allow companies to tap on more sustainable manufacturing solutions.

In addition to adopting digital technologies, companies now also need to factor in sustainability to be competitive, he said. 

Tan also updated that the Jurong Innovation District is “gaining ground and momentum” and now includes research institutes and capability developers, advanced manufacturers, Industry 4.0 solution providers, training providers and institutes of higher learning.
