GE2025: PAP retains stronghold in Tanjong Pagar GRC with 81.03% of the votes
The ruling party also secures victory in Radin Mas, Queenstown SMCs
[SINGAPORE] The People’s Action Party (PAP) won 81.03 per cent of valid votes in Tanjong Pagar GRC, retaining its stronghold in the five-member constituency once helmed by the late Lee Kuan Yew.
This represents a 17.9 per cent swing towards PAP as compared to GE2020.
Led by Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, the PAP team comprises incumbents Alvin Tan and Joan Pereira, as well as Rachel Ong – from the winning PAP team for West Coast GRC in GE2020 – and ex-civil servant Foo Cexiang, who is making his political debut.
They defeated a team from the People’s Alliance for Reform (PAR), an alliance of three parties: Peoples Voice (PV), the Reform Party (RP), and the Democratic Progressive Party.
The PAR slate comprises former independent candidate Han Hui Hui, Nadarajan Selvamani, Prabu Ramachandran, Rickson Giauw and Soh Lian Chye. Prabu was part of PV’s team for Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC in GE2020.
The rejected votes formed 2.93 per cent of the total votes.

Tanjong Pagar GRC, a traditional stronghold of the ruling party, was formed in 1991. Chan has run there since entering politics in 2011.
In GE2020, the PAP secured 63.13 per cent of the votes there against the Progress Singapore Party.
Radin Mas, Queenstown SMCs
PAP incumbents also defended their seats against PAR candidates in two neighbouring Single Member Constituencies (SMCs).
Former Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Eric Chua successfully defended his ward at Queenstown SMC against PAR candidate Mahaboob Baatsha, with 81.12 per cent of the vote.
The single-seat was carved out of Tanjong Pagar GRC in this election.
Meanwhile in Radin Mas, the PAP’s Melvin Yong took 69.17 per cent of the votes, in one of GE2025’s two three-cornered fights in an SMC.
He defeated PAR’s Kumar Appavoo, who took 7.36 per cent, and independent candidate Darryl Lo, who garnered 23.47 per cent.
As Kumar did not achieve more than 12.5 per cent of valid votes, he will lose his S$13,500 deposit, whereas Lo will keep his.
In GE2020, Yong achieved the highest vote share among all single-seat wards, winning 74.01 per cent in a straight fight against Kumar, who then ran under RP.
