GE2025: SM Lee’s team wins Ang Mo Kio GRC with new high of 78.95%
Both opposition teams in the three-cornered fight will lose their election deposits
[SINGAPORE] The People’s Action Party (PAP) team led by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong secured 78.95 per cent of votes in Ang Mo Kio GRC – the highest since the constituency’s formation in 1991 – amid a three-cornered fight.
This was higher than the 71.91 per cent that then prime minister Lee’s team achieved in 2020 and beats the previous high of 78.64 per cent in 2015. This is SM Lee’s first election since stepping down from the prime minister role.
The winning team comprised new face Jasmin Lau and former Aljunied GRC candidate Victor Lye – whose team lost to the Workers’ Party in 2015 and 2020 – as well as incumbent MPs Darryl David and Nadia Ahmad Samdin.
They were up against the Singapore United Party (SUP), which took 10.84 per cent of valid votes, and the People’s Power Party (PPP), which took 10.21 per cent.
The SUP team included two candidates who contested Ang Mo Kio GRC in 2020 under the Reform Party: SUP secretary-general Andy Zhu and customer service executive Noraini Yunus.
Another member, Vincent Ng, contested the 2020 General Election as part of the National Solidarity Party’s slate for Tampines GRC. The others – SUP chairman Ridhuan Chandran and flight attendant Nigel Ng – are first-time candidates.

The PPP’s team consisted solely of first-time candidates. It is led by party treasurer William Lim, a limousine service provider, and comprises retired civil servant Martinn Ho; construction safety coordinator Thaddeus Thomas; horticulturist Heng Zheng Dao; and former IT engineer Samuel Lee.
Thanking supporters in the wee hours of Sunday (May 4), SM Lee vowed that his team will make “Ang Mo Kio an even better place to live, work and play, and Singapore an even better place to call home”.
The Ang Mo Kio GRC is the largest constituency in this election, with 161,499 voters.
