GERMAN speciality chemical company Munzing Group opened its new regional head office in Singapore on Wednesday (Jan 15), as part of a 40-million-euro (S$56.4 million) push into the Asia-Pacific region.

Located in the German Centre within International Business Park in Jurong, Munzing Singapore will support the group’s existing production sites in Malaysia and Australia, as well as multiple regional sales offices. The company produces high-quality chemical additives for industrial applications, in sectors such as construction.

At the opening ceremony, the group’s chief executive officer Michael Munzing said Singapore’s strategic location and its standing as the world’s second-largest port drove the management’s decision to set up office in the Republic.

Through an agreement with PSA Singapore signed on Jan 14, the company will tap the port operator’s facilities, including transportation and a 500-square-metre warehouse.

Under this arrangement, Munzing will optimise its logistics operations by positioning the Republic as a centralised warehousing hub. Starting this month, the group’s goods produced in Malaysia and Australia will pass through Singapore’s port on the way to selected markets in the region.

This will cut carbon emissions and enhance supply-chain efficiency, said Munzing Singapore managing director Hector Chow.

Beyond logistics and regional functions, the Singapore office will eventually conduct research and development (R&D) in a laboratory to be opened in the next five years.

Said the CEO: “We will invest in local R&D and applications laboratories to support our customers and develop new technologies to stay competitive, innovative and sustainable.”

The German company’s entry into Singapore was facilitated by the Economic Development Board (EDB). Dino Tan, EDB’s Europe head for international operations, said: “With its well-established brand and strong customer base, Munzing’s presence will contribute to the growth and innovation capabilities of Singapore’s chemicals sector.

“We welcome more like-minded German Mittelstand companies to access growth opportunities in the region from Singapore,” he added, using the German term for family-run or small and medium-sized enterprises.
