KPMG, ACCA launch ESG training programme in Singapore
Initiative aims to equip accounting professionals and individuals from non-accounting fields with essential skills to meet the rising demand for expertise in this field
THOSE interested in pursuing sustainability accounting can now enrol in a new two-track programme, launched jointly by KPMG and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) on Friday (Oct 25).
The initiative aims to equip accounting professionals and individuals from non-accounting fields with essential skills to meet the rising demand for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) expertise in Singapore.
Both organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) during the ACCA Annual Conference 2024, held on Friday at One Farrer Hotel.
The first track, offered at no cost, provides foundational ESG knowledge in areas such as climate risk, sustainability reporting and impact measurement.
The course – which will take place over two to four weeks – will feature in-person classes at KPMG’s Asia Square office, with cohorts limited to 30 to 50 participants.
KPMG and ACCA plan to host at least two to three cohorts in the first year.

The programme is open to fresh graduates from polytechnics and universities, as well as working adults who come from non-accounting backgrounds and who are exploring career transitions into roles such as climate reporting accountants and sustainability finance consultants.
Selected participants may also gain practical experience through tailored internships at KPMG.
Alex Koh, partner and head of audit at KPMG in Singapore, said: “To redesign the accountancy workforce, we must attract new talent by prioritising adaptability, collaboration and innovation.”
The second track, aimed at senior finance professionals with at least five to eight years of working experience, offers courses in advanced ESG training, expanding traditional accounting expertise into strategic planning, decision-making, and ESG reporting.
It aims to prepare participants for senior roles such as chief sustainability officers or heads of ESG audit and assurance.
Both tracks conclude with a joint certification from KPMG and ACCA, with participants able to further pursue ACCA’s sustainability-focused qualifications, including the Certificate in Sustainability for Finance and the Professional Diploma in Sustainability.
Daniel Leung, country manager of ACCA Singapore, said: “ACCA is proud to partner with KPMG to launch this important programme, which will equip industry talents with the skills needed to shape a sustainable future.”
