Law firm WongPartnership expands regional network with Malaysian partner
As Malaysia’s economic influence in the region grows, the addition positions the Singapore Big Four law firm to better serve clients with local insights and cross-border advice
[SINGAPORE] Local Big Four law firm WongPartnership has welcomed a new addition to its regional law network WPG – prominent Malaysian law firm Cheang & Ariff.
On Tuesday (Sep 23), WongPartnership said that the network’s new entrant is a “highly regarded Malaysian law firm” that has received consistent recognition from leading international legal publications.
Cheang & Ariff is known for its focus on dispute resolution, and its corporate, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property practices, noted WongPartnership.
Ng Wai King, chairman and senior partner of WongPartnership, said the addition of Cheang & Ariff strengthens WPG’s capabilities across Asia and the Middle East.
Through the WPG network – established by WongPartnership in 2017 – the Singapore Big Four law firm offers multi-jurisdictional legal advice across the regional network’s markets, which include Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
“With their expertise on board, we are better placed to provide our clients with greater local insight and more seamless cross-border advice,” Ng added.

Cheang & Ariff joins Foong & Partners, a current member of WPG, to form the Malaysian alliance within the regional network.
The two Malaysia members of WPG bring complementary strengths and offer “seamless, integrated legal services across corporate, financial services and dispute resolution”, WongPartnership said.
This positions WPG to better support its clients as Malaysia’s economic influence in the Asean region grows, the law firm added. It highlighted the country’s status as an economic hub within South-east Asia, and as a founding member of Asean and its current chair.
WongPartnership noted that bilateral ties between Malaysia and Singapore have advanced lately through engagements such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, and that Malaysia’s emerging sectors of e-commerce, renewable energy and digital services are driving growth.
These developments underscore “potential for deeper economic cooperation regionally”, it said.
