LTA awards S$590 million contract for Cross Island Line’s Jurong Lake District station
Construction of the underground station labelled CR19 is slated to start in Q4 2024
THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a S$590 million contract to KTC Civil Engineering & Construction for the design and construction of a station and tunnels as part of the Cross Island Line’s (CRL) second phase, the authority said on Wednesday (Jul 31).
The underground station is labelled CR19 and tentatively named Jurong Lake District station, based on its location. The construction involves deep excavation works near the Ayer Rajah Expressway, and is slated to start in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Before commencing excavation and construction of the station, earth retaining and stabilising structures will be installed to ensure safety and ground stability, said LTA.
“LTA and the contractors will monitor the construction works closely and implement necessary mitigation measures to ensure safe construction with minimal impact to nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.”
Passenger service of CRL’s second phase is targeted to commence in 2032.
KTC Civil Engineering & Construction previously constructed Tampines interchange station on the Downtown Line and Orchard Boulevard station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).
It is also involved in the construction of CRL Maju station and TEL Sungei Bedok station.
The CRL will be constructed in three phases, with the first phase already under way and expected to be completed by 2030. The first and second phases comprise 12 and six stations, respectively.
