SINGAPORE will revise its toll charges at Tuas Checkpoint to match Malaysia’s recent removal of off-peak toll charges at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza (Second Link).

This will apply to all vehicles except motorcycles, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Thursday (Mar 16).

From Mar 31, there will no longer be off-peak charges. Instead, there will be all-day toll charges identical to previous peak rates.

LTA said its latest adjustment is in line with Singapore’s long-standing policy of matching Malaysia’s toll rates. There will be no changes to toll charges at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The latest revision applies to cars, vans and light goods vehicles, taxis, buses and heavy goods vehicles – which will pay the largest toll at S$11.30.

Off-peak toll charges were rolled out in April 2018 at the Second Link after Malaysia announced it would reduce its Second Link toll charges to encourage more vehicles to take that route and to use it during off-peak periods.

Malaysia highway operator PLUS said in February 2023 that after more than five years of implementation, there has been no notable increase in daily traffic during off-peak hours at the Second Link. It adjusted its off-peak rates to normal rates on Mar 1, 2023.

The latest toll rates are between RM6.14 (S$1.84) for cars, RM4.67 for taxis and go as high as RM34.30 for commercial vehicles.

LTA’s last adjustment to toll charges was in March 2020, when it lowered the toll charges for cars, buses and taxis at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. This was in response to Malaysia’s lowering of toll charges for these vehicle types at the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll Plaza (Causeway) and the Second Link.

In 2019, Singapore removed toll charges for motorcycles at the Second Link after Malaysia did the same.
