New workshop to dish out lessons for aspiring F&B entrepreneurs
Organised by Asia Startup Network, the half-day session explores what it takes to run a food business in Singapore, from concept to cash flow
[SINGAPORE] Asia Startup Network (ASN) will hold a workshop on Saturday (Jul 19) to help working professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs learn what it takes to start and grow a food and beverage business in Singapore, through insights shared by seasoned founders and operators from the industry.
The workshop, part of ASN’s Prefounder Catalyst Bootcamp, is the first one focused on the F&B sector. The non-profit previously conducted seven other workshops on topics that included general entrepreneurship and angel investing.
ASN noted that while profitability in the industry remains challenging, interest is growing – particularly among home-based F&B operators and corporate professionals looking to enter the space.
“ASN’s latest initiative bridges the gap between passion and preparation,” said the organisation, which runs events to help aspiring entrepreneurs.
Priced at S$199, the half-day workshop will take place at Santino Coffee Specialists along Bukit Timah Road, and give participants an opportunity to tour the roastery before attending three panel discussions.
These will cover the details of starting or acquiring an F&B business, selecting the right business model and go-to-market strategy, and understanding the financials that can make or break an operation.
The speakers are Chua Ee Chien, owner of the Jekyll & Hyde bar before it closed in 2023; Fu Yong Hong, co-founder of Greendot and Lotus Vegetarian; Jacinta Lee, who built and sold Wrap & Roll; and Bobby Yeoh, founder of Excelerate, a community for F&B entrepreneurs.
ASN founder Elise Tan told The Business Times that it will keep its upcoming workshop small – at around 15 people – in order to provide a good learning experience for participants.
The organisation added that, following the workshop, the participants will be invited to join its community platform, where they can seek advice, hire talent, and connect with seasoned entrepreneurs, investors and industry professionals.
