NLB chief Ng Cher Pong to take over as IMDA CEO from Nov 1
Melissa-May Tam will succeed Ng in his NLB role
[SINGAPORE] Chief executive officer of the National Library and Archives Board (NLB) Ng Cher Pong will take over as the chief executive of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) on Nov 1, 2025.
He will be appointed as the CEO-designate of IMDA on Oct 15, said the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) on Tuesday (Sep 23) in a media statement.
The 52-year-old succeeds Lew Chuen Hong, 49, who has held the role since June 2020. During his term, Lew drove amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act, pioneered artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and worked with the industry through initiatives such as the AI Verify open-source foundation, said MDDI.
Ng holds more than three decades of experience in the public service, having served in the defence, education and manpower ministries, as well as the Singapore Workforce Development Agency.
He was the founding chief executive of SkillsFuture Singapore from 2016 to 2019, and led the development and implementation of several SkillsFuture initiatives, such as SkillsFuture Credit, MySkillsFuture and SkillsFuture Series. Concurrently, he served as the deputy secretary (SkillsFuture) in the Ministry of Education.
Ng then took on the role of NLB chief on Dec 1, 2019.

There, he led the statutory board to conceive Singapore’s first fully inclusive library for persons with disabilities – the Punggol Regional Library – in 2023, said MDDI. He also drove the use of generative AI and emerging technologies to create learning experiences.
NLB successor
Succeeding Ng as NLB’s chief executive is Melissa-May Tam on Nov 1, following her appointment as CEO-designate of the statutory board on Oct 1.
The 54-year-old also has more than 30 years of experience in the public service, first joining the Ministry of Defence in 1994.
There, she held various leadership roles in research and analysis, with a focus on enhancing Singapore’s understanding of regional and global issues, and analysing relevant security concerns.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a psychology degree. She holds a master’s degree in international public policy from the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, where she was a Fulbright scholar. She also attended the advanced management programme at the Harvard Business School.
